Two new COVID-19 cases were on Saturday recorded in Kwara State barely 24 hours after three cases were announced by the state government.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 16, according to Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, the spokesman of the state COVID-19 technical committee who confirmed the development to NAIJALOADED.

He said of the 16, only 14 were active cases, as two had earlier been discharged.

It was gathered that the state has so far tested no fewer than 456 people, with 357, samples returning negative for the deadly virus.

While 69 results were being awaited, two persons have been discharged after recovering from the infection.

The state Deputy Governor and chairman of the COVID-19 committee, Mr. Kayode Alabi, had on Friday disclosed that three additional cases were recorded in the state making a total of 14 confirmed cases with two discharged patients.

“All our cases are stable and in the best of spirits. We want to emphasize that one of the three new cases was imported, while the remaining two are contacts of our earlier cases. Aggressive contact tracing had since begun,”

He added.

NAIJALOADED reports that the new cases recorded are coming hours before measures to ease the lockdown in the state is implemented.
