Anfield Roads Closed As Fire Crews Tackle Blaze Above Shop

Emergency services were called to Townsend Lane, Anfield, close to the junction with Breck Road shortly after 11am on Monday to reports of a fire at a flat.

Roads were closed in north Liverpool as firefighters tackled a blaze above a shop.

Fire crews arrived at the scene of the blaze within minutes and began to tackle the fire, which started in the roof space above the flat.

Three fire crews were spotted at the scene of the fire with police and paramedics also in attendance.

Firefighters were seen using ladders to tackle the blaze above a shop close to the Willow Bank pub.

North West Ambulance Service said that nobody was injured in the incident, while Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed all residents had been accounted for.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters are currently in attendance at a property on Townsend Lane in Anfield.

“Crews were alerted at 11.02am and on scene at 11.07am. Three fire engines are in attendance as well as a combined platform ladder.



“On arrival crews found a fire in the roof space of the property. The property consists of a flat above a shop.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire externally using a hose reel jet. They then pitched a 13.5m ladder to the top floor to check for fire spread.

“The combined platform is now being used to remove tiles from the dormer roof of the property to allow firefighters to extinguish any remaining hotspots.

“All persons have been accounted for.

“Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance

“The incident is ongoing.”

Police advised road users to avoid the area while emergency services remain at the scene.

Road closures are current in place at the junctions of Townsend Lane, Priory Road and Lower Breck Road in Anfield.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “There is an ongoing fire at a house on Townsend Lane.

“There are road closures in place at junctions of Townsend Lane, Priory Road and Lower Breck Road.”
