Liverpool Goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel Says “Atletico Deserved To Go Through”
The Spanish goalkeeper for Liverpool, Adrián San Miguel, spoke to ‘DAZN’ about Liverpool’s Champions League exit. The goalkeeper thinks Atletico were the better team and deserved to go through.
That game at Anfield between Liverpool and Atletico is on everyone’s mind. It was the last Champions League game before COVID-19 stopped play.
Adrian San Miguel saw it first hand and admitted that the better team won. “Atletico played their game, they beat us in both games and they deserved to go through,” the goalkeeper told ‘DAZN’.
The Spaniard started the return leg of that last 16 tie which saw the Premier League side lose 2-3 on aggregate. He admitted that the game left him with a “bitter taste” in the mouth.
“It’s true that you play it over in your head the first few days, you know that it was your last game, you have quite a bitter taste in the mouth. We lost the tie after being in a very good position in it. We had more than 20 shots on target, we hit the post twice and the man of the match was Jan Oblak,” the Liverpool keeper said.
Liverpool have returned to training this week under strict security and hygiene measures to prevent contamination and it reminds Adrian of when he started playing football as a kid.
“It reminds me of when I was kid at Betis’ academy when you had to take your own water, your mum prepared your rucksack with your clothing, you went, you got dirty and you showered at home because there were hardly any showers,” the goalie concluded.
